Our Story
We are a Black led, Black focused and Black mandated and Black serving charitable organization providing free culturally sensitive mental health supports including counselling, workshops, seminars, webinars, information, referral, and mental wellness awareness education since 1999. We are one of the first black led, focused and culturally informed mental health services serving the ACB community and working to reduce the stigma prevalent within the ACB community.
Our Approach
Intersectional Evidence-Based Practices
Diverse Community
Culturally Adapted
We won’t give up until every Black person experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.
What We Do
We are providing free culturally sensitive mental health supports including counselling, workshops, seminars, webinars, information, referral, and mental wellness awareness education for African Caribbean and Black (ACB) community members.
We provide advice and support to empower individuals experiencing mental health challenges and their families.
We advocate to improve services, raise awareness, promote understanding and support to ACB individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
We know experiencing a mental health problem is hard enough. Fear of judgement, shame and isolation just makes it that much harder. That’s why we continue to work towards ending mental health stigma and discrimination
Our Approach
Our approach utilizes intersectional evidence-based practices that include the integration of best available evidence, clinical expertise, and individual values and circumstances such as the social determinants of health and personal and community values. We recognize that the ACB community not homogenous and there is no one size fit all approach.
Our services are evidence based, empirically supported therapies that have been culturally adapted, like Culturally Adapted Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Culturally Tailored Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), along with other culturally sensitive approaches delivered by ACB mental health professionals.
